Unlike most Hollywood movies being made today, Lord of War actually has something to say – and even though it goes about saying it clumsily and you may find the film’s ultimate moral lesson suspect – Lord of War packs quite a punch.

(Ray, Jarhead) is detective Ricardo Tubbs in this big screen adaptation of the hit 1980s TV cop
drama. In the movie, they face a trans-national criminal enterprise whose leader and chief financial
officer is of Chinese/Cuban origin (Gong Li). The original series, created by Anthony Yerkovich and
executive produced by Michael Mann, starred Don Johnson as Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Tubbs.

Uncomfortable seats, sound problems and an overlong dull movie all conspired to make the South African premiere of Miami Vice at Monte Casino this week a tortuous ordeal . . .

We were stuck in traffic for two hours on our way to the South African premiere and the movie started an hour late, but it didn't really matter since this latest instalment delivers on everything one would expect from a Mission Impossible sequel . . .
