Flushed Away (2006)

Flushed Away is the latest animated offering from Aardman, the British outfit responsible for Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run. It is however a computer-generated movie instead of their usual “claymation” efforts . . .

Bungee jumping without any chords was the latest thing . . .
Apparently using clay animation is a lengthy and drawn-out process even compared to CGI animation, which is why they opted this process instead. The movie however retains the look and feel of Aardman's previous efforts.
Flushed Away is fun, funny and much more entertaining than a lot of this year's other animated efforts. (But that isn't saying much considering that Flushed Away is up against the bland and mediocre likes of Open Season, Ice Age 2 and The Ant Bully.)
That Aardman however choose the faster process of computer animation as opposed to the lengthier more traditional clay animation is indicative of what Flushed Away itself is like. If the movie has a failing it is that it simply isn't as good as last year's Wallace & Gromit movie and Chicken Run. Flushed Away often eschews humour and characterisation in favour of fast-paced action set pieces.
Don't get me wrong: Flushed Away is hugely entertaining and inventive, it just lags a bit when it comes to the studio's previous efforts. It seems to be just in too much of a hurry to get things done with.
Besides, any movie designed for kids that wantonly throws around Kafka gags gets my vote. Go see it.
