Open Season (2006)

Open Season is yet another decidedly average computer-animated movie featuring cute furry animals churned out by the Hollywood dream factory . . .

Show me the money! Sony cashes in on the current CGI craze
with Open Season
Made on the proposition that kids will watch anything and will in any case drag their parents with them to see it in the cinemas, Open Season is neither bad nor good – just bland and easily forgettable.
You'll have an okay time watching it even though there is only one really funny sequence, but afterwards you'll probably have difficulty in remembering it at all as Open Season regurgitates all the clichés particular to this genre.
You get:
- A domesticated animal having to cope with existence in the “wild” (see: Madagascar , The Wild)
- Animals with “cute” ethnic accents, in this case a Scottish squirrel voiced by comedian Billy Connolly (see: the pigeons in The Wild as just one example of this)
- A showdown in which animals are pitted against humans (Ant Bully, Over the Hedge)
- Pop songs on the soundtrack (a convention since Shrek)
See what I mean?
(Surprisingly there aren't any closing credits dance sequences.)
